supacat, who has wanted an Oliver vid to this song for years: I finally made it for her. She also betaed it more times than I can remember, so it's kind of her baby as much as mine. I'd also like to thank the Vividcon audience for being so receptive to the vid and to clarify that Oliver is BOTH the guy with the dark, angsty redemption plot and the guy who can't find his pants. And therein lies his appeal! *nod nod*
talitha78 gets a special mention for being the only person to mention Batman to me so far.
Lyrics:
You don't know how you took it
You just know what you got
Oh Lordy you've been stealing from the thieves
And you got caught in the headlights of a stretch car
You're a star
Dressing like your sister
Living like a tart
They don't know what you're doing
Babe, it must be art!
You're a headache in a suitcase
You're a star
Oh no, don't be shy
You don't have to go blind
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me
You don't know how you got here
You just know you want out
Believing in yourself almost as much as you doubt
You're a big smash
You wear it like a rash...star
Oh no, don't be shy
It takes a crowd to cry
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me
They want you to be Jesus
They'll go down on one knee
But they'll want their money back if you're alive at 33
And you're turning tricks with your crucifix
You're a star (Oh child)
Of course you're not shy
You don't have to deny love
Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me
(orgasms to fade)

Date: 2010-08-27 07:57 am (UTC)You are spot on that I am far more intuitive now as a vidder. :) You are SO SMART! This is probably my most intuitive vid ever and I had to actually turn off my conscious mind for some of it--it was hard, I fought that quite a lot--but the vid was better for it when I did. I also had a learning curve on DLZ about that so it's not too surprising to me that you see a similarity with it. :)
What was most fascinating to me is that when I really tuned in to the vid and what it wanted to be it had its own life and it grew on its own terms--largely that was driven by the song, which is very powerful, and when I let that take me where it wanted to go everything improved.
I am not sure I can fully describe the experience of seeing it on a large screen with a big audience. I think it's not like anything I've experienced before or since. It felt like everyone was with me on a magical journey and they were all excited too. The roller coaster parallel is not far off actually--it was as if I'd built a roller coaster and then invited my friends and 100 other people to go on it with me! I was incredibly spoilt by the audience--I really won the jackpot in terms of audience feedback. Possibly part of it was that they knew I'd come from so far away? But I think a lot of people enjoyed it because it was upbeat and a good song. :)
