Can some northern hemisphere peeps send some Arctic chills down here to Melbourne? We are sweltering! It was 43 today. It's still 38 now, at 9:30 pm. I have wet towels on my head and a fan, but I would seriously kill for aircon... sigh. Good thing I'm back at work today, saving up for it!

It's our state's first 'Code Red', the newly (since-Black-Saturday) instigated 'catastrophic weather conditions' warning system they whacked on the end of our existing fire warning system. So far no major outbreaks but the conditions today definitely warranted the warning which I understand to mean 'really f-ing hot, consider getting the hell out of fire zones'.

Brisbane was positively temperate in comparison... Sunset Sounds festival review therein )

I just made it with my Festivid assignment. Phew! Must end post... require more ice...

Guess who I saw play my favourite venue this week, [livejournal.com profile] snarkist?! Sufjan! It was absolutely brilliant. report on the important stuff--like hula hoops )

Right now I'm watching Roger Federer play Tipsarevic, and I'm fretting coz it's gone into a fourth set. Federer's my favourite player on the men's circuit, and I desperately want him to win this year's Open--I know it means a lot to him, since he's so adorably respectful of the Australian tennis tradition. Come on, Roger! Don't fret! (He looks fretty! :() Phew, he broke serve. *wipes brow*

[livejournal.com profile] counteragent is running a new-to-me vid-watching challenge this coming week. The challenge is to watch a new vid (preferably from a vidder you don't know) every day for a week from 21-28 Jan. I've signed up. Anyone wanna join me? :D

Also, if you haven't yet seen [livejournal.com profile] counteragent's tribute to vidding, Destiny Calling, then you're missing a meta-y treat. And it features some of my favourite vids! :D

ETA: WOW, what a match! And aww, he's such a gent.

Whee! It's [livejournal.com profile] the_mas's Comment Day, which I am kicking off 'early' since it's well and truly Friday in my part of the world.

For those of you who are new to this event--it's basically an excuse to spam LJ with comments, because we all love them! And so I can garner 'em myself, I've even done a couple of memes.

Icon meme )

Also, I want to pimp a couple of people who've delighted me this week:
[livejournal.com profile] elsmoka whose icons I have discovered, and who granted permission for me to use the fab Jake 'goodlooking revolutionaries' icon. Mwah!
[livejournal.com profile] lastscorpion who wrote Ponyville which made me laugh myself silly (it's a Smallville/My Little Ponies crossover-lol!)
As always, the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] estrella30 and [livejournal.com profile] mskatej for upping my porn quota for the week.
[livejournal.com profile] radioreverie for amusing me with her oh-so-honest unpopular opins (I luv rebels) and for converting me against my will to Jonny-Greenwood-appreciation.
Also... any Chlex fans on my list should check out [livejournal.com profile] sinecure's icons. And encourage her not to abandon SV! ;-)

There. If the MASsians on my f'list can't find *something* in this post to comment on, you lose at Comment Day! *pokes tongue* (Bonus points to anyone that comments in my crazy but beloved [livejournal.com profile] mahabarata comm!)

Well it's a public holiday, so why not?

Music meme gakked from [livejournal.com profile] vibrantharmony

Instructions
1. Open up the music player on your computer.
2. Set it to play your entire collection.
3. Hit the shuffle command.
4. Tell us the name of the next ten songs that show up (with their musicians), no matter how embarrassing. That's right, no skipping the Carpenters tune that will totally destroy your hip credibility. It's time for musical honesty.
5. If you get the same artist twice you may skip the second (or third, etc.) occurrence. You don't have to, but you can if you like.

My list
The first five are linked for anyone that wants them. Why the first five only? Well, think yourselves lucky, people! 'Cop Shoot Cop' is seventeen minutes long!!! Boy did I laugh when that one came up!
1. A band of bees, I Love you
2. The Smiths, There is a light that never goes out
3. The White Stripes, The Hardest button to button
4. Missy Higgins, Don’t ever
5. Luna, I know you tried
6. Jens Gad, Art Nouveau
7. Morcheeba, Bullet Proof
8. Spiritualized, Cop Shoot Cop
9. Franz Ferdinand, Well that was Easy
10. Cordrazine, Crazy

Name six songs that you are currently digging...it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words or even if they're any good but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions and then list the six artists and the songs in your LiveJournal. Then tag six other people to see what they're listening to.

Well, this is excellent timing because I promised T I'd post about the music he gave me on the weekend. *waves* I know you're lurking out there! ;-) thank you for the music joy!

OK, so... in no particular order:

1. 'These are the Ghosts' by A Band of Bees
(beautiful waves of sound - feels like a whole live concert all wrapped up in one beautiful track!)
2. 'I'm your villain' by Franz Ferdinand
(because it's just so sexy)
3. 'Saint Simon' by The Shins
(amazing lyrics and stacks of charm)
4. 'Secret for a song' by Mercury Rev
Ahhh... gorgeous track. These guys rock!
5. 'Dreaming of you' by The Coral
*bops around the room* Cute, boppy track that makes me pull out my old indie-dancing...
6. 'Morning wonder' by Earlies
Chill out song - builds and arcs like a Spiritualized track.

Prizes to anyone who can spot the Clex in this list... ;-)

And I tag... supacat, katetheother, talitha78, estrella30, herohunter and polarenigma

Feel free to ignore me! Or bag my music choice! *pokes tongue* (sorry - in a silly mood tonight)
