Smallville fandom: heads up!

Sigh. I'm doing this because I think it's the best thing I can do in the circumstances, but I hate the entire situation.

As most of you know, svmaria reactivated her journal earlier this week. toadstoolsmiles and aelora have both posted very damning IP address information that indicates that she's been using several identities and telling conflicting stories about herself.

I understand how confusing these things can be. We all have to form our personal opinion under these circumstances: mine is that there's probably a grain of truth in some of her stories, but I don't think it's constructive to allow her to continue to spread lies. I think she's ill and needs medical care. I don't want to see the situation extended in our fandom. Consequently, I posted this comment to her. I'm linking to it because I think transparency in this conflict is important.

I'm not going to appeal to anyone not to believe in her. It's not my place to do that. I'm just posting this so you all know my personal views and can make up your own minds. Believe it or not, I do still wish the person behind this well--they need help, and I hope they get it, for their sake and ours.

Smallville vid rec

So on a MUCH cheerier note, if you haven't already seen obsessive24's Smallville vid Change (in the house of flies) then you should do yourselves a holiday favour and go download NOW! It's subtle and complex and awesome, tracing the evolution of Clark and Lex into their future identities. And it captured this little meta-girl's heart with its many juxtaposed parallel images of Clark and Lex as they evolve. It's a fierce and powerful vid that left me gasping, and I'd encourage even those not familiar with Smallville canon to check it out, because it builds its own narrative very powerfully.

I'd be more coherent but I've just returned from tramping across Melbourne in an 'Amazing Race' style work Christmas Party excursion. And yes it is still 35 degrees and smoky, thanks for asking! :-) ::stabs crazy work::
