Christmas Eve
Dec. 24th, 2006 03:01 pmI'm FREEEEEEEEEEEE!!! It's Christmas Eve and I'm on holiday. *beams* For a whole week! I don't go back until the 2nd of January. and after the week I had at work this last week, *wipes brow*, it's well needed.
I've done all my shopping, narrowly avoided getting into a fistfight over the last of the buffalo mozzarella at the delicatessan, the house is well and truly decorated (the Boy has outdone himself--he's even received fanmail from our neighbours about the lighting!), it RAINED the other night when the cool change came (*breathes with relief*), and last but not least, there's a respite from the fires. So I am very happyful.
The megafire is still burning, but within containment lines--in state forests and not threatening property. So the firefighters will get a rest for Christmas, with cooler conditions. And we should be relatively smoke-free in the city. The temperature has plummeted in the last couple of days as the cold front came in. Believe it or not, they're predicting SNOW on the peaks for Christmas. Not only is that almost unprecedented for this time of year (it's summer!), I have never seen or heard of the temperature changing so fast that it may snow within a few kilometres of a raging bushfire front. So mark that one up for the history books!
And I must thank so many people for the cards that have arrived in the last few days:
yavannuk,
laurab1,
nehellania (yes, Jen, it pleases me VERY MUCH! *g*),
talitha78 (TREES!),
kristiinthedark (pretty handmade card!) and
duskwillow (gorgeous card and postcard of Zagreb!).
Now for some last minute housework and then I'll sit down and relax in the evening. I'm late with wishlist-surfing, but if you don't have your wishlist linked at Spread the Cheer and want to drop a link to it here, feel free, as I will be doing wishlisty things over my Christmas break. I'm also planning a big vid rec post too, as imeem has been feeding my addiction very nicely.
For now, best wishes to all for the holiday season, and Merry Christmas to those of you celebrating it!
