Honestly I should chuck tantrums with the show more often: you guys are awesome. :p
Seriously, though, I do want to thank everyone who commented on my post. I have been overwhelmed by the interesting debate it inspired and moved by the sympathetic responses it provoked. Not to mention the icons! (Thanks
dianora2!) You guys ROCK.
I think I really need to do a follow-up post as my thinking on the episode and the overall issues has grown and been influenced by the debate. I was particularly fascinated to discover how diverse people's expectations about the end of the show are, even at this point in time.
Unfortunately I'm a little short on time this week and with the Smallville series finale looming I'm going to be (I hope) consumed by my other show. But I will get back to these thoughts. *nods*

Date: 2008-05-14 01:59 pm (UTC)No need to thank us. It's fun! And honestly, for my part, it really does help clear up some of the more...murky plot issues that are happening right now as well as to put things into perspective in ways that I hadn't considered. So yeah, tons of fun. :-)

That would be awesome. Seriously awesome. I look forward to it whenever you get a chance.
Not to mention the icons!
That icon does indeed rock. Too bad we can't get that across to RDM.

Date: 2008-05-15 12:28 am (UTC)I am very much looking forward to your follow-up post about "Faith". Something tells me I'm going to find it fascinating and enlightening because you've already thought of plot issues that I hadn't noticed before. Can't wait to read it!

I am still trying to keep the faith....For every ho hum episode of BSG there are so many outstanding eps I know that this probably sounds bloodthirsty but I think we need to loose a few more characters.....(not Lee though..*pouts and glares at Ron*). Hard as it might be, the ensemble cast has grown a bit too large andyes, I agree the focus lately has been cylon heavy. I have been trying hard to sift through the BSG religious analogies with a clinical eye. I love some of the symbolism and rituals associated with many religions and like to see myself as tolerant, but my wavering agnostic/ atheistic tendencies make it difficult with the current BSG focus. I am curious to see where they will take this because there are generally no quick resolutions. It is no surprise to see many stressed humans seeking hope and solace but forgiveness takes time if it more than a superficial process. I appreciate that there is a lot of story telling to do in a short time, and that there are many plot threads (and a large cast now) to bring together, but I do wish we had a bit more focus on some of the human relationships that drew me in to bsg in the first place.

Date: 2008-05-15 09:12 am (UTC)I actually thought we would have by now! I thought more would die in the opening battle in S4. Like someone we knew would die. Instead they're only killing very minor characters and Cally's death was a Really Big Deal. I'm surprised.

Right!

Yeah, same, every so often I get in a panic about how few eps there are left for them to return to those characters. At the moment I'm cheering myself up by remembering how much ground season 1 covered in only 12 eps. It can be done! And we have 14 left... so maybe this is just a temporary Cylon-heavy period to establish some end-game plot stuff? I can hope.
