Lois picspam #4

I know some of you have expressed interest in the 'Lois messes with Clark's sexuality' picspam I promised--well it is coming, I promise, but before we get to that I'm indulging in some Lois-y self-centredness. This picspam is about why I relate to Lois.

As warned, this post is totally self-indulgent--you may not share these traits with Lois, and these are not her omg!awesome qualities, just the small stuff that makes her human--but even if you don't, well, she looks damn pretty, right?

1. Lois is kind of awkward and bad with kids--but she tries.
I'll be honest--kids make me terribly nervous. I try to be all nonchalant and talk to them as equals but I have no clue what they're thinking and most of the time they just stare at me. It's very disconcerting! Getting stuck babysitting a kid I don't know is my idea of a nightmare, so I have pity for Lois here...


Especially because you can tell she knows she's blowing it.


But she really does try--it's not her fault the little brat runs off. And man, what a nightmare that would be!


2. Lois understands the concept of comfort food.
And she doesn't hide it. She shares it! Though she does try to hide the food from herself... I totally do that. I have an emergency cookie stash in a chinese urn. Hee hee hee.


The other characters have inner pain, Lois has... chocolate.


3. Lois has low tolerance for stupidity.
Um, me too! This girl was a total lunatic--Lex's stalker.

4. She makes really bad cakes.
But it's the thought that counts, right?! RIGHT?! *clings to hope* The number of times I've made patchy, slightly flopped, unaesthetically pleasing cakes for my friends is... frightening. I still have a burn scar on my hand from the one for my first flatmate. I like baking--clearly Lois does too--she keeps on attempting it. But the results are ... mixed.


5. Lois is a coffee addict.
Well, ok, everyone on SV is. Except possibly Jonathan... or, no, I'm sure I've seen even him with a mug in his hand. Anyway, I still think it's great. I like having my addictions normalised. ;-)


6. Speaking of addictions...
I know, I know, I've mentioned the playstation thing before. But you see that look on her face? I know that look! And see how Clark's hovering in the background trying to get her to do something useful? That could totally be my boyfriend! 'Just one more round!' :D


7. Lois likes simple pleasures.
Like long hot showers. Mmmm.


And ok, this is completely gratuitous, but you'd all feel cheated if I left it out, right?


8. Lois has wardrobe crises.
She stresses out about what to wear. Eep! I understand. That girl stuff isn't easy. Though if I looked like this, I really wouldn't worry...


9. She has nightmares.
And she loves pjs. *g* I find it very amusing that she interrupts the Kents' earnest tete a tete to recount her nightmares. It is a bit rude and self-centred, but I also know what it's like to wake up from a really terrifying vision--sometimes sharing it is the only way to dispel the horror a bit. Though dreaming of flying men in red capes is a new one to me. *g*


10. Lois is uncomfortable with unexpected affection.
Ok, you could argue she's only uncomfortable in this situation because it's Clark, and I think she's especially uncomfortable because it's Clark--but there are signs of this elsewhere too. Lois doesn't go looking for people's approval, she doesn't do or say things in a deliberate effort to elicit sympathy or affection--so it sometimes takes her aback when she receives it: especially from guys.


Eep! Handholding!


*freaks*


This is my favourite bit--Clark just smiles wryly/fondly and eases off the pressure by releasing her hand and breaking eye contact. But he isn't mean to her and he doesn't look pissed off. *hearts Clark like woah*


So there you go... self-indulgence over. Feel free to tell me what little things help you relate to Lois. Or any of the other characters! I like the little details. *g*

Mwa ha @ #1. Personally I don't like kids, and I think it shows. But for some reason they sometimes really like me, and I never have any idea what to do with them. So when she showed those crayons in the kid's face, yeah - been there, done that. lol

You know, I never really noticed her playstation habit. I think it's cool! So is her coffee addiction! I'm obsessed myself. I go so far as to grind my own beans :)

I LOVED the handholding moment. I remember being very excited when it happened.

She also looks especially pretty in the picture holding the coffee!

You grind your own beans?! That IS hardcore! I'm lazy... I just buy a lot out. But having said that, I am a fusspot about it out. And I love how everyone in SV drinks gallons of the stuff. I was SO RELIEVED when Lex bought them the Italian cappucino machine--I didn't have to imagine them drinking that hideous American percolated stuff. *shudders*

The handholding is one of my favourite moments ever. I used it in my very first vidlet--and vidded it to the lines:

That is understandable! As appalling as it is I only have instant at home. Partly to keep my addiction under control. Lol! I buy good instant, but it's still instant. :-p

Oh that's very kind but it's only a tiny wee thing, just over a minute long and it was the first thing I made so it's very dodgy. I don't have it uploaded anywhere, but if you really want to see it, I can send it to you. I wish I could rec you some good Clois vids but there aren't many. :-( It is a source of great woe to me.

I don't want to put you out, so only if it's not too inconvenient. And if you want to wait until next week, that would be good because we've maxed out our internet limit for the month and have been dropped back to prehistoric internet speeds. I tried to d/load a 4MG file and it took over 10 minutes *headdesk* And all the picspams are killing me because it takes ages for a page to load and then misses half of the pictures. I end up refreshing 4 or 5 times before I can see all the pics. But I hate missing out, so I persevere. I'd throw my panties at optusnet for a bit more speed, but somehow I don't think they'd want them :)

My boy and I have upped our limit to ridiculous levels and I live in denial of the mega $$ we shell out each month to overcome it--but I used to hate those days at the end of every month where we'd max out our limit. :-( Curses on them!

Another reason I love Lois is because she isn't perfect. She has foibles. But she owns them, unlike other characters on the show.

And it it nice to see Lois having a wardrobe crisis because I spend every morning trying to figure out what to put on. But like you, if I had a body like Lois I'd just put on whatever and not worry about it because she looks good in anything, unlike me.

I think that hospital scene from Zod is my favourite Clois scene ever. Why, when there are all those 'iconic', anvil, sometimes-I-think-you-know-me-better-than-anyone-else scenes to pick from? Because the hospital scene is between the Lois and Clark that are already real, already friends in the SV realm. It's a quiet, short, beautiful scene. It's just.... awwwww!

It doesn't hurt that, to my mind, Tom is at his most beautiful in the scene too. :-D

It is Lois' flaws and quirks that really set her apart from the other characters on Smallville. She has a life outside the plot. She isn't just Ms. Exposition or Ms. Love Interest. She's just Lois, and she always has been and always will be.

She is so perfectly imperfect, and I love your examples that display that. She does try, she is human, she is flawed, and she is a girl. I compare her often to Scarlett O' Hara (one of the greatest female characters of all time). Both women are stubborn, passionate, driven, tenacious, self centered, smart, bitchy, fiesty, quick tempered, beautiful, and STRONG. I love that both are more than capable to take care of themself, stand alone and pull through, but deep down in hidden places they seldom let seen they really just want someone to come along and hold the reigns once in a while, even if simply to tell them they're doing it wrong. ;) I love that despite all of their strength and abilities to stand alone, they can be swoony when someone can step in and save them. It's that bit of "girlyness" that makes them both in my opinion a true Steel Magnolia. Strong and Beautifully fragile, which really, isn't that what being a woman is all about?

I am loving this picspam so much. :) I RP Lois every day for hours on end and have for over a year. She is a character I simply adore and love to write. Again I have to say thank you for showing others in our fandom SO MANY reasons why they should love her, too.

I like your comparison of Lois to Scarlett O'Hara, because I do think of Lois as quintessentially female. She's strong, but not masculine--and that's really really rare. Nowadays there are more strong female characters on TV but sometimes it feels like they just designated them a bunch of male characteristics to make them strong. So it's a kind of false strength. I like seeing a woman be both feminine and strong. Because those two things are NOT mutually exclusive, dammit. *stamps feminist foot*

I think RP-ing Lois would be wonderful! She's one of the few characters on TV I genuinely see as a role model. Thank you for sharing your own thoughts about her--it's great hearing other people's perspectives. *G*

Oh, I definitely relate to everything except #1 and 4. Hee, I love that you've listed all those things in a picspam, because you combined all three of some of my favorite fandom things: picspams, lists, and insight on a character I don't have much of a grasp on! Despite my complaints about the way she's used as a butt of jokes or a sort-of foil for Lana (not that I would ever agree with that, since you can't compare two characters that are very different from each other), I love Lois hanging around in Clark's background, and now that you made me think about it, I consider her a breath of fresh air since she came in S4. I never get annoyed with her; she's actually very endearing in the ways that she annoys Clark! Because annoying the most powerful being on the planet, even if you didn't know it at the time, will always be great for giggles, and it even helps to get him out of his mopey funk! :D

And now I need a Lois icon! :D

Oh, these ones are *cute*. And I love the fact that you identify with some of her habits so strongly (like the playstation thing, which I had completely forgotten about).

I have issues with her discomfort around children, though; frankly, that's almost completely implausible for an oldest child who had to basically help raise her own sister. (Speaking of reading characters through personal experience...)

#10 is probably my all-time favorite SV Clois scene.
