My insomnia may make me snarky ... Shallow thoughts first: OMG, MAMA PETRELLI!!! MAMA PETRELLI AND THE HAITIAN! AND CLAIRE! *spazzes out*

And, omg, the Haitian needs to speak French ALL THE TIME, because that was frakking hot! *fans self*

Eeeee! Nathan and Hiro! *squees* They make me very happy, and I thought it was so cute that Hiro can 'see' the real Nathan now ('I thought you were mean'--hee!). And he does the 'flying man' thing every time. Hee! They're just adorable. Also, Nathan is so hot! There was a lot of great suit-wearing that I approved of in this episode. Keep up the good work, Nathan! And wow, do the Petrellis have to hold each other in every single scene? *blinks*

I watched this episode in a sleepy haze and I remember thinking how fond of it I was despite my snark about it. However, I do have some questions:
- How is The List composed exactly? How will spinal fluid help Mohinder a new list?
- How come Sylar can handle all these multiple powers but Peter can't? (Because Peter is lame?)

Actually, I don't want to bitch about Peter because I really liked him in this episode despite my bitching last week. Having him freak out and blame himself for Simone's death was the best thing the show could have done with him at this point in time, as far as I was concerned. It made him way more sympathetic (though I'm still mad at his behaviour with Isaac), and I really loved him in the scene with Nathan. (I always do.) And that moment when Peter vanished really got to me.

On the other hand, my sympathy for Isaac vanished. (And I do think there was some sloppy writing in there.) His behaviour post-Simone's death was just daft and annoying and cartoonish. (Is he going to seesaw on and off heroin forever? Er, that's going to become implausible pretty damn quickly!)

Shapeshifting girl is cool (though unoriginal power--evidently they used up the really original ones early on!), and I felt so bad for Mr B. :-( Oh, Mr Bennett, how I have grown to love you. And I love Mrs Bennett to pieces too.

As usual, I was most invested in Claire's plot, and as seen above, I squeed with joy when she showed up looking for Peter and found the Haitian with Mrs Petrelli. That was such a great scene! I loved her giving the Haitian the slip in the airport--such a convincing response for her character given her age and the overwhelming circumstances.

Among the things that didn't work so well for me in this ep were Nikki (big surprise). Perhaps I'm just too disengaged from her story, but Nikki's temporary ability to thwart Jessica felt sudden (and suspiciously convenient) to me. I don't understand what has changed for Nikki that she can suddenly do this. (I'm hoping [livejournal.com profile] norwich36 will have the answers on this front. *g*) And while I love Hiro, I did find him completely daft in this episode. Honestly! Why wouldn't you at least try to stop time if you had to steal an artefact from a high-security location. And Ando's back. *headdesk* Just when I was getting excited that Ando's absence might mean Hiro had to hang around Nathan more... :-( However, I did love them timetravelling forward and seeing that they hadn't managed to stop the bomb. Nice!

Have I mentioned how much I'm loving Sylar these days? He's gone from being a completely one-dimensional figure to being quite fascinating. And Mohinder, wow, you got your little moment of triumph. But your stupidity betrayed you once again! I was satisfied that Mohinder was not able to overcome Sylar completely because that would have strained my credulity to breaking point. But I like the whole 'you're just like your father' line, because I do find both Mohinder and his father daft as hell.

Wow, there was a lot in this episode. I haven't even got to Nathan and Lindermann--that confrontation was brilliant, though the 'life of happiness versus life of meaning' had me frowning a bit. It felt a bit forced, but I imagine the show will build on that/explore that further and perhaps in wider context it gain some subtelty. But I loved Lindermann playing the one card that would stop Nathan in his tracks. (Oh, and I'm not surprised at all that he's been working with the FBI! *g*) Those unanswered questions are too powerful: they're about 'the people that really matter'.

I understand there is a break now. This was a great episode to end on and the multiple plots are really working for them now, with the heroes being drawn closer together.

Finally: apparently Sylar hated Peter's floppy fringe as much as I did. :-D

I desperately want to see more Nathan and Hiro. They're wonderful together.

Peter's interesting. I disliked him intensely at first, as I mostly saw him as an emo whiny boy. Post-"Homecoming" I've liked him much better, but I'm still not as enamored of him as some are. I do like what they did with him in this episode, however. And Peter & Nathan together is almost guaranteed to be fabulous.

Isaac has been slowly losing any sympathy I had for him, and this week it's totally gone. Pfft. Maybe he'll get it back, but I have my doubts.

Shapeshifting girl is cool (though unoriginal power--evidently they used up the really original ones early on!)

The current running theory is that it's actually illusion-casting. I haven't gotten around to re-watching the episode yet to confirm this, but I believe that she also hid Simone's body while pretending to be her.

There won't be another episode until the end of April, sadly.

Yeah, I hated Peter to begin with too. Emo and whiny and dull. But he's definitely never going to be my favourite Petrelli. I still shift in and out with him--the show's treading a thin line with Peter, for me. This week they got it right, but I fear he could lose me again.

Ah, illusion-casting! That makes sense of the weird zooming effect. Got it! I like that better (though at the time I just thought 'huh?! weird effect!').

The last few episodes have been just wonderful! And yay for Grandma Petrelli and the Haitian! That was so cool!

Shapeshifter girl was able to alter perception not only of herself, but also of her surroundings. The shimmery air around her shows that. Also, she was able to make the real Simone disappear and reappear, so she was altering the whole scene around her.

I wonder if Peter is going to be able to manifest Sylar's power(s)--his original laser finger power or any of the other powers he's picked up. I could see a duel of the two multi-power guys

Ohh, shimmery air: you got a lot more out of that than I did in my sleepy state! *giggle* Hers is a most intriguing power then. I wonder what it's limitations are.

Hmm, yes, making Peter more like Sylar would make him interesting to me. Because I always found his 'i'm so special and destiny-bound' obsession rather dangerous. I'd like it if Sylar worked as the 'dark' side of that. Though it bothers me that I still find Sylar cooler than Peter.

the Haitian needs to speak French ALL THE TIME, because that was frakking hot!

HAHAHA! THAT WAS EXACTLY MY THOUGHT! He needs a name so he can be my "Heroes" boyfriend - I just think he's such a BEAUTIFUL man.

And oh, goodness, just when I thought Mohinder wasn't completely stupid, OF COURSE HE IS! GAH!

He does need a name, yes. He is incredibly gorgeous. I want him to take me to some suave poolside cocktail bar and talk French to me. :-)

Mohinder makes me laugh a LOT now. At first I found him attractive, then I sank into disappointment at his daftness, and now I've come out the other side into odd fondness in a 'oh, Mohinder, you are hopelessly naive' *pats him on the head* kind of way. ;-)

I guess Sylar will still leave his head on (for you to pat it) since he has no special powers :P (Mohinder, shoot first, take samples later, dude!)

Is he going to seesaw on and off heroin forever? Er, that's going to become implausible pretty damn quickly!
Um, why? I have a friend who told me that experimenting with drugs was okay, except for heroine. Because you try it once, and you'll spend the rest of your life missing it (and he does). If Isaac has a weakness in that area, why wouldn't the stress of causing the death of someone he loved cause him to be tempted back to chasing the dragon? Though it could get ANNOYING and boring pretty damn quickly, I don't find it implausible.

I loved the fringe, but what I love more is that first the show MOCKED it and then they KILLED it. Hee hee hee :D

I pretty much have a tolerance for all of the characters. There are none of the heroes that I outright dislike, although Mohinder has annoyed me from the beginning. It isn't a hatred or anything. He's just a naive drama queen. I don't want him to die, but everything he does, I'm like siiiigh. Mo's one of those guys who's so smart that he can't tie his damn shoes!

With the heroin, I meant that it's very hard to come off it--it's not a quick process. So if Isaac's going to go on it again, will he come off it conveniently when necessary for the plot? This is what I fear and what I would find implausible--not him going back on it again. I've just found the portrayal very unsubtle.

what I love more is that first the show MOCKED it and then they KILLED it
Indeed! That was glorious! :-)

I don't think Mohinder's actually smart at all. We're told he has academic-type smarts, but I'm not all that convinced... once he's actually demonstrated a significant feat of logic/insight I'll believe it. Until then I'll continue to believe that he grew up 'advantaged' as far as genetics is concerned. It's familiar to him, so he understands it, but he doesn't really have any brilliance of his own.

Hmm, I'm not sure I even really noticed the Niki part of the plotline, there was so much else going on in the episode.I agree with you that they didn't really explain how she's able to assert control, but I'm not sure that it is illogical; if Jessica could gain control of her whenever she looked in a mirror, I'm not sure why it couldn't work in reverse. But honestly I'm really preferring Jessica to Niki: less whining, more butt-kicking, even if she *is* evil.

I completely agreed with your Peter comments, though I have a friend in RL who is going to be really depressed that the emo fringe is now history.

I saw someone's review of this episode that Syler and Mohinder were really living up to their pairing name of S&M, and it made me laugh and laugh and laugh. I did love that Mohinder at least got a partial clue in this episode, and the curare was fun--as was the torture via tuning fork--but he really should have known better than to leave Sylar alone for so long. I'd be perfectly happy if Sylar ate his brain, really. If anyone has to die (and I suspect at least one person does before the end of the season), I'm perfectly happy with it being Mohinder or Issac.

I *told* you that Ando would come back and save the day. I suspect, though, he is also marked for death--and you seem to have the special mental powers of making people you dislike on the show die, so I am doubly convinced he will die.

I hear you about Jessica. She really is preferable to Nikki, imo. Though my emotions this week were effected by not wanting Nathan to die! ;-)

Yes, I agree that Mohinder or Isaac could die. So far, everyone I've disliked passionately has carked it. (Peter's just lucky I started liking him! ;-) ) So, I'd say... Isaac. And Ando, of course! ;-) I have slightly more fondness for Mohinder; I think it's the pastel sweaters. He may live! *is magnanimous*

Yes, yes, you told me about Ando. Denial was my happy place, though. You should have seen my face when he came back!

I dpn'T think Peter and Sylar actually have the same power.
I think there is a difference.

It might also have to do with how far you are willing to go...

I agree, because Sylar steals powers by killing mutants, whereas Peter doesn't seem to have a choice in the matter; if he comes into contact with a mutant, he'll acquire their power. Peter is an empath whereas Sylar is a leech?

That seems to be the line the show is running with. I just said below though that it's still interesting to me that the 'unnatural' means of obtaining extra powers makes them easier to control. (Chilling!)

There's potentially a lot of interesting darkness in Peter's plot and in paralleling him with Sylar, I'm just not sure how far the show will go with that.

Well they obtain their extra powers by different methods, so that would suggest a difference. But it's also interesting that the 'unnatural' way of obtaining them makes them easier to handle--whereas Peter struggled to control his 'naturally' obtained powers. Very intriguing.

I understand there is a break now. This was a great episode to end on and the multiple plots are really working for them now, with the heroes being drawn closer together.

Finally! I've been so frustrated that they go in and out of each other's lives. I nearly screeched back when Claire was outside Firemommy's trailer and Nathan was there. I just wanted to yell Go in! Go in!

I'm not sure what was the best run-in by the heroes: Nathan and Hiro (although the latter was a little silly they have such an awesome casual relationship), Claire/Mama Petrelli/the Haitian, or last week's Claire and Matt when Claire thought of Peter. Finally, an acknowledged link! I was screaming for someone to connect them all to Peter and it happened.

I nearly fell out of my chair when the bangs hit the floor. I love how [livejournal.com profile] ladydreamer put it above: they MOCKED it and then they KILLED it.

Yes, it's a great relief to see that all the heroes are finally connecting up with one another.
