Let me say it once. ‘Ageless’ was my single most hated Smallville episode ever. I understand that it was Al&Miles’s love-letter to the Christian Right. I understand that the Christian Right puts them on TV. If that’s what it takes to keep Smallville on TV, then I will live with it. But, dear god, don’t make me watch it ever again! Ever.

It was an absolute tragedy that Tom Welling developed acne during the filming of ‘Ageless’. It meant I couldn’t even completely zone out on his superbly inhuman beauty. And the make-up team really didn’t pull their weight.

By halfway through this episode, my viewing-buddy and I had resorted to the Internet Age’s equivalent of putting our fingers in our ears and singing ‘la, la, la!’: I was reading out a sarcastic review of the ep simultaneously as we watched it. So bad was this episode that this improved it only fractionally.

Two marginally interesting moments: Clark saying he’s not sure he can have kids and Lex saying he doesn’t want to. Ha! You guys *have* a kid canonically. The usually subversive Smallville failed me here.

If anyone cares to refute this and make this episode better in my memory than it was on first viewing, please… feel free… otherwise some small part of my soul is going to be off in a corner writhing in pain.

I promise I'll get back to the Clex after this! ;-)

LOL! Wish I could refute any or all of that but...I can't. Ageless was just painful to watch.

I loved that whole Clark/Lex kid exchange to, purely because of the irony.

It was just a horrible, horrible episode. My girls and I were talking about this one just the other day. We weren't impressed with any of it, but were particularly irked by Lana's role in the whole thing.

But then again...I'm always irked by Lana, so it wasn't really anything new.

Sorry I couldn't help much here. Just do what the rest of us do and learn to ignore the many, many bad episodes. After all - they call it denial for a reason.

lol

I'm afraid I still haven't seen anyone who likes this episode.
I found it very boring. The only part I liked was that big gay rainbow-coloured explosion that blew up Clana windmill. *g*

whee! yes, the Big Gay Explosion was great. And Clana windmill needed to die.

Thanks. That reminder helped!

The only good thing about Ageless was the woobie feelings I got watching Clark hold a baby. Because I am a huge sucker.

Yes, I nearly got those feelings... but then they flew away. I think I'd used them all up on Shelbie (or should I say: Clarkie) in 'Krypto'. I'm a sucker for dogs...

I would really like to be able to cheer you up, but it really was that bad. Probably even worse...

I personally loved the way they used the baby to bring Lana and Clark together as a potential couple, i especially liked the part where the boy called them mum and dad.

Really....No. It was very sucktastic.

But, TW arms were especially good in those tight tshirts he was wearing at the beginning. That was good *g*

Yeah. That was good. Arms!
Sucktastic sums it up, alright.

Agreed, I just watched it. Terrible. I'm focusing on the Lex pensive look as Clark walks out at the end and the cue Lex will be bad someday music.

Hi! This episode was truly horrible, but there is one little part that struck me at the time and it's stuck with me. Clark says his favorite book was The Velveteen Rabbit because he would imagine that his parents love made him real. Perhaps it was because of the order I viewed the episodes (I saw the last halves of seasons 3-5 simultaneously before any other eps.), but this was the first time it struck me just strong the outsider feelings are in Clark - even to the point where he felt unreal without his parents' validation. That one line resonated with me and helped me to understand the character.

The rest of the episode sucked so badly, I blocked it out. *g*

Wow! Thanks for sharing your insight. It's lovely when little touches like that give you greater understanding of the character. I don't remember the Velveteen Rabbit very well so the line passed me by--thanks for mentioning it. I agree that Clark's feelings of being an outsider are overwhelming and explain ninety-per-cent of his psychology! Glad to know there was one fitting character touch in this horrid episode.
