Doggy dramas
Feb. 11th, 2007 09:14 amWe went to pick up Bobby, our new dog, yesterday. We were meeting in Tocumwal on the New South Wales border, about 3.5 hours from Melbourne. When we arrived and met Bob, we discovered that he'd been bitten that morning at the shelter by another dog. It had happened after we were already on the road, so they'd decided it was best to come meet us anyway. The bite was at the hip joint of his back leg and he was having trouble putting weight on his back leg. To cut a long story short, we couldn't leave Bobby once we'd met him--he's an absolute angel of a dog, quiet and brave and very well mannered. So we collected him and drove back to Melbourne. On the way, the bite started bleeding again and we drove him straight to the Animal Hospital when we arrived back in town. He didn't even yelp when the nurse examined him, though I could tell he was in a lot of pain. We had to leave him there over night to get stitched up. It was a pretty exhausting and emotional day.
This morning we're waiting to hear when we can come and pick him up--if he's out from under anaesthetic yet.
We heard that he'd been adopted once before from the shelter but that he'd been neglected by the new owner--tied in a yard on a chain with no bed or proper shelter. The rescue home got him back again, thank goodness. I'm so glad he's ours now so we can look after him properly. I can't wait to have him home to spoil him.
Anyway, now I'll be watching Smallville to kill time before we can pick Bob Bob up. (He likes 'Bob Bob' as a name--looks absurd written down, but quite cute when you say it!)
