I am in a very chirpy mood today, since my wonderful friends list has provided me with many wonderful photos (and video!) of the two most beautiful men in the world meeting! *squee* Of course I mean Tommy and Johnny D. I am delighted by their manly handshake, Tom's earnestly impressed expression, and, most of all, Tom's stylist, who must have been working for months for this event (at least, that's what I'm fanwanking to explain his mysterious absence of influence over Tommy elsewhere in the last three months). ;-)

So while on the subject of squeeing, I also wanted to post about two shows that have made me bubbly and squeeful in the last few weeks. Like many people, I've used the hiatus to catch up on a couple of shows--in particular Doctor Who and Dead Like Me.

Doctor Who
OMG! I have SO MUCH LOVE for the Tenth doctor that I can barely breathe while watching him. I just want him to be on screen all the time! With his glasses and his oral fixation and his cute wee suit and his sneakers and his long coat and his slightly manic behaviour! Eeee!! He's officially my favourite doctor now. I feel slightly disloyal to my childhood in saying this (the sound of the Tardis arriving still reminds me of my mother's cooking) ... but hey, we all move on! ;-) And this doctor with his indie British looks was *made* for me to fangirl! Also David Tennant = Scottish, so I'm only being loyal to my home nation, you know?!

On a more serious level, I love the writing of the two new series of Who. Apart from a couple of below-par eps each season, it's been very high quality. And one thing I particularly love is how strong the guest actors are. There have been some one-episode characters that completely blew me away. My favourite episode, without a doubt, is The Girl in the Mirror--Madame Pompadour was fantastic, and that ep goes down as one of my all-time favourite episodes on any show. Seriously. Loved it. (And has anyone read The Time Traveller's Wife? Because this ep totally tapped into my residual emotions from reading that glorious book! Yes, I'm a secret smooshy romantic. *sniff*)

Anyway, I'm officially hooked and lining up for Torchwood and the next series, which is a ridiculously long time away.

Dead Like Me

So, I got the first series of this out on DVD as background noise while I did some annoying admin. I didn't expect much out of it, but it crept up on me and started to charm. I love the black humour idea of Reapers, but the best part of the show for me is actually the office stuff--I love the way it takes the piss out of those crappy admin jobs we all (or many of us) work when we're young. And the girl who plays George is brilliant at conveying sullen teenagehood and unimpressed-ness. The other characters don't rock my world, but they do ok. However, there have been some individual plots and episodes that I got a kick out of. And I find myself thinking about the show more than I expected. It's not spectacularly well-written and it's got some clunkiness, but it's good light-weight quirk, and I have definitely enjoyed. Anyone know where it's up to? Has it just had one season? What's the deal?

And because there is STILL TIME before SV starts up again--has anyone got any shows they'd like to rec for me? Yes, I know I should watch Alias because I never have. Yes, yes. And don't dare come near me with those 'SG' shows. But anything else?

Oh, and fear not--I will return to SV-squeeage in due time--I'm just having a leetle holiday. *g*

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Do you remember that day I flamed you when I thought you'd converted to SGA?! Hee!

Well you can pimp DS, but as I explained to Jen above, it's pretty hard to track down here in Aus. I've always meant to get to it one day though. And yay for House! When does it start? I'll have to negotiate some bandwidth for it from the boy. ;-)

I not only yelled 'eeee!' about Johnny and Tommy, I also clapped and then REPEATED said behaviour over and over, as [livejournal.com profile] serenography gave me this little clip of it in slow mo that repeats over and over and over hypnotically. O.O *dorks*

Yes, I remember that VERY well! *G* You were scary mad at me!

House starts on September 13th. Not very long at all. As for DS, I may know where I can hook you up, you know, if you want. Just say the word.

I'm glad we're both dorks, it makes our conversations so much less embarassing!

It really does! ;-)

I'll get back to you re. DS. I have bandwidth issues to sort out as always.
