Mmm, the stuff about pleasure was SO fascinating. It really became clear (obvious as soon as someone pointed it out!) that this concept of pleasure being devalued was associated strongly with women's art practices being devalued and the marginalisation of female cultural expression. Thankfully there were some fabulous advocates against this there but it definitely made me reflect on the way I've personally internalised that idea that my own pleasure is not a worthwile motivation. Adding motherhood to the equation does seem like it would skip those ideas into overdrive, for sure!
