The P!nk concert! It was actually her 39th on tour, I believe--she's sold out stadiums around the country for months. To be honest, not being exactly hip with mainstream music, I hadn't realised that Pink is bigger in Australia than in any other country. But apparently so. We are NUTS for her. Her singles top the charts here all the time--way more than in the States. And I guess that's why she's practically been living here for the last year or so, while she tours.

Anyway, I'm not really a stadium concert kind of girl (or rarely) so despite thinking she's the most awesome mainstream female artist out there, I hadn't got off my ass to get tickets until work colleagues mentioned that they had the chance to get really good seats. And I went 'what the hell? Sign me up!'

OMG, why did I wait SO DAMN LONG! I could have gone to 10 of her concerts by now! After last night I feel like I might do that... I've become instantly uber-fannish about her. Live she has this insanely warm charisma, that was far more than I expected, and her stage act, well...

Firstly there were about 10 different costume changes and as many changes in mood. Yet the whole concert felt like a coherent work, linked by the circus theme of course.

The stage was built in a T-shape, and there was a general admission area around the stage, but we were in the very front row, right at the end of the stage, which put us a few metres from her for a lot of the concert, and gave us a very comfortable way of viewing the aerials without neck-strain!

The entire atmosphere was so upbeat and fun. People from all walks of life were there--families with kids and grandparents, alternative/indie kids, big groups of friends, and lots of people dressed up, either in pink (e.g. pink wigs, feather boas or clothing), as Pink, or just for the heck of it (fairy wings). I'd say the audience was skewed towards women (lots of young girls too) but there were also heaps of guys, and definitely a gay & lesbian following as well.

Before the concert there were Mexican waves going round the arena, and camera crews picking out people in the audience to put on screen.

The concert opened with video footage of Pink climbing on a motorbike for 'Highway to Hell' before the little (she's so adorably teeny!) ball of energy herself was lifted out of a trapdoor on the stage in front of us on wires above the audience.

Ok, pics! I've borrowed photos (both official and taken by fans) from www.pinkspage.com for this review. My camera shots are mainly dodgy as I was too busy squealing excitedly. Here's a couple of my own pics to begin:

My best shot of an aerial (most of the time I was too awestruck to even try):

Further down the stage:

This little boy behind us had a really big night! Pink saw his sign which read 'Marry me!' and said she would. Later she asked him how it was going and he said he had something for her so she climbed down off the stage and got his gift (a ring, we hear!) and he got a cuddle. Very cute.

So here are some of the official shots. You can see how many costume changes there were!

How can she sing while doing that!?! (She made some jokes about 'lip synching'--that's just totally not her!)

Some of the content wasn't entirely appropriate for 8 year olds but here's hoping it went over their heads. ;)

So pretty, OMG!

Check out her stomach! *blinks* It was mesmerisingly muscled. It seems to me like she has a perfect martial artist's physique (or at least for tae kwon do). Her fitness level must be insane.

And again with the stomach... also look how pretty! and how caught up in the emotion she is. I was really impressed with her ability to shift emotional tone throughout the concert.

The concert managed to capture the poignancy and wistfulness of the circus in moments like this.

The final act totally blew my mind. It started with four dancers hanging from red draps being lowered to the stage as Pink strode out in a long black cape.

Then Pink herself was raised up in it, while singing. Her leotard was mainly nude or see through but with silver stripes running around her.

You can kind of see here (as she sings):

The most amazing part was that they lowered her into the stage, immersed her in water and then raised her again so that water droplets fell from her over the audience as she spun. This was to 'Glitter in the Air'--a song I'd never even much liked, but it brought me to tears with the imaginative beauty in concert.

If you can overlook the watermark, this gives you the best idea of how it looked in person:

As you'd expect, she sang just about everything from Funhouse, and also older classics like 'Just Like a Pill' 'Get the Party Started', 'Who Knew' and 'Trouble'. She also sang a number of covers including 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (yuh, she's one of the only people in the world who can pull that off that!), a verrry cool version of 'I touch myself' (on a red sofa with hands coming up out of it to touch her) and 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkly.

She chatted really naturally, and it really felt like was at home in Australia in front of the crowd. She talked about going to the footy the night before and about accidentally spoiling people via Twitter for the result. She said 'I'm a loud person, I was born that way' (love) and nattered during quiet acoustic songs after promising to be quiet. She put a massive grin on my face and her star quality was awesome, but I also came away feeling that if I ever met her I'd be totally comfortable talking to her because she's a really nice person and treats people like equals. Her warmth with her dancers, musicians and trapeze artists was totally genuine. Yeah, she's the star, but there was way more of an atmosphere of 'come on, let's all have a great time together! I want to share this night with you!' It rocked.

I've saved this (fan-taken) shot for last as it is my favourite. It shows her warmth, cuteness, prettyness and killer biceps.

*lovestruck*

I *love* Pink! Her voice is awesome and I think she's extremely under rated in the US. I also really dig the person she seems to be (considering I don't actually know her personally, it's what I've surmised from her interviews and the messages she sends in her Music videos).

I'm glad you had an awesome experience, but with Pink, how could it be anything else??

Yeah, I realise now that she is totally underappreciated in the States. I'd assumed she was their biggest star! But apparently she sells way better here and in Europe.

She's been in the media so much here while on tour, she's kind of part of the Australian scene at the moment, and she definitely comes across as very down to earth, with understated humour and a lot of warmth to her personality.

That looks and sounds like an awesome concert! I like her music a lot, and it seems like she's great as a person too (and so very hot too; I want those arms!), so I'm envious here! I'll be keeping my eye open for leaked concert bits, her version of Bohemian Rhapsody sounds like something I'd especially like to see.

Do, do! I have Bohemian Rhapsody on dodgy mobile phone footage if you're interested. I mean REALLY dodgy footage-wise but the sound's not too bad. I could email it?

It looks like an amazing show and something more suited for Broadway or Vegas than a concert tour. Applauds her showwomanship. :)

Wow! That was really a show. Aerials and she sang too! And she looks so strong and flexible. Go ahead, fangirl her! She looks like she totally deserves it!

You totally have to see her in concert again. You sound like you had a blast. :-)

Oh, NEAT. Glad you had such a good time! I've never been a *huge* fan of P!nk's music, but I do love some of her songs and also her attitude. And now I really want to see her in concert, 'cause that definitely sounds like one hell of a show.

I realised it didn't really matter how much you liked her music... it was still a terrific performance. If I'd known I'd have dragged along a lot more people who quite like a few songs and like her overall strong-girl vibe.

Every single person I know who saw her the last time she came here on tour absolutely RAVED about her. My daughter and I both love all her music and would love to see her in concert. I love your description or how fun and amazing this tour is.

Omg, her body... *wants*

Yeah, I am RAVING! :D She gave me such a high! There were heaps of mums and daughters (of all ages) in the audience--I think it would be great to go to together. In general it made a terrific 'girls night out'.

Her body is INSANE!

I think that I read that she was a gymnast (and a pretty good one) when she was growing up. She didn't quite have the success in that field (US team), so she concentrated on her music.

It looks like Pink gives as good a show as Bette Midler. I went to a Bette Midler show a few years back, and it was so good that that's the one I compare all the others to.

Thanks for sharing your pics and comments.

Yay, picspam! Even without having that wonderful experience it's kinda hard to not fall for her. ;D I bought the DVD of her last CD tour and it was *amazing*. I'm hoping they get one of those out for Funhouse too, so I can enjoy vicariously. *G*

OMG! YAY! You'll have a BALL. It's hard work catching everything that goes on in parts of it--she has so much going on on stage, but that means it's perfect entertainment. I nicked some audio as well and have been playing it to myself and reliving it.
