Another year, another birthday

Thank you for the virtual gifties, little internet fairies!!

I had a quiet but enjoyable day with some good food, shopping and sunshine. The seasonal obligations are almost over and then I can completely relax. I've been working hard formulating many resolutions for 2009--I'm determined that it will be year of improvements.

The new year will also be marked by a new pair of glasses, my first in ten years (because i'm lazy). I am quite excited about them! I might actually wear them this time. :)

Does anyone else feel like they're holding their breath for the new year? I don't really want it to start, because then I'll have to actually do all the things on my 'to do' list, but on the other hand I feel like I'm in a vacuum until it does. Hmm. /monday night existential crisis

I do feel like I'm holding my breath! 2008 was... transitional, shall we say? LOL. I'm ridiculously optimistic about 2009, though. My list of resolutions is coming along too. :)

I feel similarly regarding new year resolutions. I'm good at making (mental) lists of plans (everything always looks so doable in my head), but it inevitably ends in a disappointment when it comes to actually sticking by those resolutions.

Yeah... I didn't do great on resolutions in 2008. But that's partly because I didn't set myself up well to succeed--going into 08 I was so exhausted and busy running around looking after other people, so it didn't really allow a focus and determined approach for myself. But 2009 could be different.

I never make New Years resolutions because I always end up setting myself up to fail. But I *do* have an inexplicable discomfort with the first few days of the new year - it's kinda that weird feeling you get when your out and you can't remember if you turned the stove off or not...

What kind of glasses did you get? Something subtle or more big-frame trendy? I just bought my first new pair in 17 years from this collection (http://oxydo.net/home.jsf?lng=en). Cost a fortune and I still can't decide if I really like them or not...

I think I have the 'stove on' feeling in the days either side of the new year because I already have it. ;)

I think the glasses are subtle, but they have a chunky two-toned frame. They're small though, because my face can't carry big glasses.

And I understand you perfectly about that "holding your breath" thing (2008 has been a sort of professional hiatus for me... but it's over! **I'm in a sort of existencial crisis at this point of my life :-) **).

I'm very much in that vacuum. Part of me thinks I'm going to find my Kastle card (that lets me in my office building/floor) and go in over the holiday to do things I didn't do all, erm, year. But most of me just sits around reading/watching movies-tv/listening to audio books/playing games.

I don't make formal resolutions, but I do get excited for the new year and a symbolic fresh start. This year for the first time I'm on vacation right now, and I find myself fidgeting around the house, feeling like nothing counts until January 1 comes. I finally settled on cleaning and reorganizing, wanting to greet the new year with my house in order. It seems a crazy way to spend my time off, but that's what feels right. :)

Also, yay for new glasses! I'm nearsighted, but my vision has gotten so bad that I simply couldn't work without my glasses. I can just picture it: "What? There's an extra comma there? It all looks like a blur to me..." ;)

My eyesight is not that bad yet, thank goodness, but it's definitely at the point where reading for several hours--especially proofs--is tiring. The new glasses make things much easier. :)
