I wouldn't say being literal is a faux pas. There are some vidders that think so, but I think it can be done well.
There's a war going on for your mind, Laura. is one of my own favorites as well. She was able to get behind the lyrics with amazing inteligence to really go for something.
flummery's Handlebars is a great example of literalism done the right way.
