What a relief! And wow, new Coach sucks even more than we thought. I'm a little disappointed that the show's gone with such a black and white treatment of him so far. I mean I want Coach back too, but did this guy have to be an ass to everyone? Poor Jason. Though I really loved his two confrontations with Riggins--both made me laugh. They're really just such kids still, and I'm delighted that Tim's going with Jas to Mexico--it means he'll have someone to rail at and someone to be there when it inevitably all falls apart.

Speaking of inevitably falling apart... for now, Tyra and Landry are really sweet. I'm glad that Tyra articulated what she found attractive in Landry and that it's not JUST about the murder for her. I always thought she'd get seduced by the idea of someone really caring for her and I can't help but feel glad for her, even if it's under awful circumstances. Seems like Landry's father's already clueing in to things not being right, and when the watch business comes out into the open it's going to be terrible.

I enjoyed the Tim and Lyla plot way more than I expected to. I think it worked really well because Tim is so very lost and he craves connection desperately. He's also used to associating a sense of well-being and a purpose in life with sexual conquest. I'm not surprised he made a move on Lyla but I believe him that he didn't mean it as a 'line'. He's clutching at anything that'll make him feel connected and worthwhile and she seems like a chance at that. He doesn't see that for her a spiritual life is separate. They were at such perfectly drawn cross-purposes: it was really well written.

Poor Matt broke my heart with his apology to Coach. Honey, she dumped you: no apology needed! And I kind of liked seeing him lose it with Smash who can be so completely self-obsessed and really does need taken down a notch. It was also amusing to see him fall into typical teenage boy mode and expect the nurse to do his laundry. SO glad she didn't! I like her a lot so far and I'm glad Matt's got her around.

Julie's busy being a typical teenager. It's painful to watch but believable, and I'm glad it's now been articulated that she feels betrayed by the birth of her sister and her father's departure. Poor Tami! I think she's doing really well, all things considered. But it's sad to see it taking such a toll on the family anyway. I guess this is the flipside of them being (usually) such an amazingly healthy family unit--when they fragment things start to fall apart.

Can I put a bullet through Mr Garrety's skull? Because I really really hate that guy. I don't know what he's got planned but I think there's going to be bad consequences to bringing Coach back in this way. His motives are always so selfish--like in the car with Tim. He's a total contrast to his daughter there. Because while Lyla is capable of selfishness too, in this instance I think she was genuinely worried about Tim and trying to help him. So yes, I'm pretty wary about where he's going and I really didn't like the way he made Coach the offer. Yes, things are tough with Coach's family right now but it's still in a lot better shape than Garrety's own family so he doesn't have the right to comment, imho. I guess we've seen, though, that Coach has multiple reasons to want back to Dillon: the job's not all he thought it would be as well as his family concerns.

Well, he's going to have a lot to sort out. ;)
