Challenge deadline and brief chatter

Real life is still beating up Boppy, so I'm keeping this short. :)
Quick reminder that the Character Study Challenge closes this Saturday October 6. Today we got the first vid entries which was very exciting! There's still time to contribute and so as to be fair to all of you not first into the future like us Australians, I should clarify that the competition will close at midnight LA time (which is actually 5pm on Sunday here in Australia). Hopefully that little extra time will help any of you running late. ;)
Still grabbing time here and there to watch the new shows. I was very happy with the second episode of Chuck--I found it, if anything, more amusing than the first one. Adam Baldwin is pleasing me greatly and I enjoyed Chuck's hapless confusion about who to trust. it's certainly not deep, this show, but the comedy's of a style I enjoy. I really like all the little computer nerd jokes in it too--I loved the flying the helicopter scene for example. It's such a cute idea that all that playstation-ing could pay off. ;)
Bionic Woman... um, Michelle was hot in the training scene? I'm trying to keep my claws in and not bitch about what a terrible job she's doing. So I'll restrict myself to saying that I think the show would be a whole lot more fun if she had any ability to play a line for comedy. But Katee, once again, stole the show. Though I'm yet to be convinced that there's much depth to the plot or characters. Slight bonus? I actually really like the bratty little sister. Weird!
Heroes. Gah! Where to start? Same same as last week but with more dismemberment? I am not at all happy with this whole evil-twins scenario: especially with the girl playing the helplessly evil one and brother coming to the rescue. I see that the drawcard of the episode was Peter tied up and tortured and then getting to be all saviour-y (while still being internally tortured). In theory this is better than last season's emo fringe and accompanying self-indulgence, but somehow I can't get that excited.
Nathan needs to lose the beard. Yesterday.
See you on the flipside of Smallville!

Date: 2007-10-04 01:33 pm (UTC)I'd probably be more upset with this myself if I cared, which I don't. I don't see why we need them, they both annoy me, and the black ooze was soooo X-Files. I half expected them to cut to some guy lurking in the shadows smoking. :p

Date: 2007-10-04 10:56 pm (UTC)Yeah, my tolerance for them ran out in the second episode. We don't need them. And the black ooze was not only X-Files, it has already been ripped off by Smallville, so this is a third-hand concept/effect. Pfft! *unimpressed*

Date: 2007-10-04 02:11 pm (UTC)Thank you! That is S1 Peter to a T. (I hate that little self-important whiner, so...)

Date: 2007-10-04 02:42 pm (UTC)Oh, and Nathan's Oreo-cookie beard scares the hell out of me.
Rushing home to see Smallville tonight!

Date: 2007-10-04 04:21 pm (UTC)I also don't like new brother and sister on Heroes. They bore me.

Date: 2007-10-04 10:50 pm (UTC)I wonder if the producers went off her work in Jekyll where she did a good job of delivering her funny lines. Maybe maintaining the accent is working against her? They should have held off a year and waited until Katee was freed of her BSG duty and given her the part.

Date: 2007-10-04 10:58 pm (UTC)Bionic: Heh, I think maybe there's a lack of clarity which will hopefully pass for depth for a little while? I liked very much that the show was not taking itself so seriously this week. But on the other hand, I was giving Michelle a lot of slack last week because the writing sucked so hard, but now that it's not quite as bad ... um. What were they thinking?? They cast her without an audition, too, just based on her supporting role in a British soap. I'm willing to believe that she was just fine in that, and/or she's just having a hard time acting around her accent, but you know, an audition could have spotted these problems guys. (And I'm reminded that Eick nearly cast Grace Park as Starbuck but his wife told him he'd be sleeping on the couch. If only she'd been there this time!)
I warmed up to the little sister too. I think the actress might actually be a bit better than MR. *sobs* I'd say make her the Bionic Woman, but then the slash would be illegal and we can't have that. ;) But I loved Katee's (tiny) scene and I'm eating up all the BSG pandering. Elosha as the principle! The miniseries CAG as the evil thug! Exodus II randomly on the TV! Oh, Eick.

Date: 2007-10-04 11:12 pm (UTC)Hee! I'm a firm believer in sticking to reading the best writing you can find in the hope it will rub off. ;)
but now that it's not quite as bad ... um. What were they thinking?
Right! There were actually some lines that I could definitely have enjoyed--not taking itself so seriously was a great move. And I actually almost laughed once--when she got knocked on the head to fix the ringing in her ear. That kind of stuff would play well to me if they had a better actress.
I'm reminded that Eick nearly cast Grace Park as Starbuck but his wife told him he'd be sleeping on the couch. If only she'd been there this time!
Seeee.... David Eick does not fill me with confidence. And so far he's just sinking lower and lower in my esteem with this show.
I think the actress might actually be a bit better than MR.
This sentence had me completely flummoxed for a moment, because 'MR' is so firmly in my mind associated with 'Michael Rosenbaum' (from Smallville) that I nearly flipped out on you and started with 'WHAT!? are you MAD?!' But then I got it: Michelle Ryan. Yes. I agree!
but then the slash would be illegal and we can't have that. ;)
Hee! Indeed. ;) Not that that ever stopped anyone before!
Exodus II randomly on the TV! Oh, Eick.
Yeah, I kind of like it. But mostly I think I just feel a bit embarrassed by it. Because this show feels like an awkward country-cousin to BSG... the one you wish wouldn't show up at all your family events and hog the conversation. ;) I miss the GOOD show!

Date: 2007-10-05 08:30 am (UTC)Heroes is entertaining... but I actually spent a lot of the last episode listening to it while I fiddled with models I'm making, rather than actually watching it :P BW is one of those shows I've not made the effort to watch - I know loads of people are watching it for the OMG!Katee factor, but I thought I'd wait until after the season has screened and see if it makes it to a second season or not - I'm not excited enough about it to want to follow it weekly.
Bones has been really good so far, though...

Date: 2007-10-05 09:07 am (UTC)Yeah I multitask through it too. Same for BW. That show is on my viewing schedule by the skin of its teeth... it could slip.
I've never watched Bones and figure it's too late to start now--doesn't really sound like my kind of show anyway.

Date: 2007-10-05 08:44 pm (UTC)Hey no judging! You know you're going to watch JB's straight-to-dvd horror flicks. ;P

Date: 2007-10-07 01:10 pm (UTC)Mmm... yeah, I probably will if they come out on DVD around here. I like horror movies :) Although the only other thing I've seen JB in is a few episodes of Hornblower - I don't think I've gone out and looked for anything with him in other than BSG. I did watch the Last Sentinel though, and thoroughly enjoyed it :D Reminded me of Rgue Trooper, in a lot of ways.
