August, my least favourite month, is finally drawing to a close. August is the coldest month in Melbourne and I have developed a superstitious distrust of it over the years--it has frequently been a month that has brought bad news, stress and sorrow. And this year has been no different. But it is nearly over and the fact that I can smell spring in the air is giving me cause for optimism. Today was a balmy twenty-five degrees and I pulled a sundress out of the cupboard. The cherry blossom is out and everything feels a little lighter.

So today I'm making a post about random things that are currently making me happy.
- My cat is recovering much better now (thanks for the kind thoughts everyone!).
- [livejournal.com profile] sv_ledger is back from hiatus and this makes me feel like Season Seven is getting closer... I miss Smallville so much! :( I even miss the illogical plots and the crazy fan wars! Somebody saaaaave me before I go rewatching Ageless...
- My Friday Night Lights dvds have been posted and I am omgsoexcited!
- [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu is watching Heroes and the mere idea that his clever clever brain might be combined with the prettiness of Heroes to produce a spectacular vid is very happy-making.
- [livejournal.com profile] bsg_crack! Clearly a brilliant idea. :D
- Beta-ing for [livejournal.com profile] brokenmnemonic who is making amazing leaps and bounds in vidding (Lee vid and squeeful Kara awesomeness with a Kara/Lee slant--such productivity! I be jealous. *g*) I love beta-ing vids and it was such a pleasure to help with these.
- On the subject of vids, [livejournal.com profile] m_a_r_i_k_s's Kara-centric 24 blew me away. I'm still catching my breath and getting the lump out of my throat.
- [livejournal.com profile] literaryll: I have finally finished all the comics and am itching to get to the store for more. Thank you SO much for enriching my life with them! *hugs*
- The vitamins prescribed by my doc are finally making me more wakeful (without caffeine!).
- I'm vidding. :) I fell into a bit of a malaise there for a while, but I think I'm working my way out of it.

So what is making you happy today? :)

Glad to hear it!

So what is making you happy today? :)
Although it was a bit of rough start, and we still have things to make decisons on/figure out, I'm surprisingly happy to be working with [livejournal.com profile] sv_ledger again. Am all awwww over both the new issues :o)

Yes, I am pleased with the Ledger being back too! The structure is strangely comforting and it forces me to keep my eyes open in fandom for new stuff (which is definitely good)!

August is my least favorite month of the year for the exact opposite reason, it's too hot! So, I'm definitely not sad to see it go, either. :)

The thing making me happy today is that the heat seems to have broken this week, and my guy and I are headed to the farmer's market (one of last opportunities before autumn)after work today. Yay!

*is jealous of your cool weather* It was 104 here yesterday (that's 40C) and it's supposed to be at least as cold today.

However, I am about to have a long weekend, during which I hope I can read the rest of the comics [livejournal.com profile] literaryll sent me, which is making me very happy!

Um, that was supposed to be at least as hot. Hee. Freudian slip or something.

Yikes! 'Cold' indeed! ;-p

Ahh, [livejournal.com profile] literaryll is converting you too! She is a stealthy propaganda machine (and a highly effective one)!

Interesting -- I feel much the same way about February. For a short month, it can feel depressingly endless, and dark and grey and cold. And I actually like winter -- in December, the new snow is simply beautiful, and the quiet hush of January makes it my favorite month. But February is when it feels like winter is just never going away. Though the ice storms do make all our tree branches look like sugar candy, and given our current heat wave, that doesn't sound so bad.

Things that make me happy today:
- I picked an immense quantity of blackberries yesterday, and washed and froze them this morning. More should be ripe next week. We've got a blackberry bonanza this year; I think I'll have something like a gallon of berries altogether. Enough for jam, and blackberry-infused vodka, and there's a blackberry sauce for grilled chicken that I've been wanting to try.
- Along similar lines, I've been growing tomatoes this year for the first time ever, and we've got more ripe ones every day. There are few things more delicious than a just-picked tomato.
- I'm rereading Flaubert's Parrot (by Julian Barnes) and it's totally excellent. I keep finding bits of it I want to quote.
- I slept 14 hours last night. This is due to having a rather icky cold, but I seem to be cycling through it reasonably quickly, which makes me optimistic that I will feel significantly less icky soon.

Blackberries!!! *envious* Oh, how I wish berries were less expensive here. I adore them and I can just never afford enough in summer--they have such a short season.

It's been a long time since I read Flaubert's Parrot but I remember it being good.

Thank you! I am so much calmer myself now--it's amazing how tuned in we can be with our pets. Now, the poor boy is just restless to be allowed outside but it's not allowed yet.

Glad to hear your cat is doing better.*hugs*

Watching the US Open, paying special ogling attention to Roddick and Federer, is making me happy this week.

Looking forward to a new season of Smallville as well.

I keep intending to watch Friday Night Lights but it seems a little too close to home as I grew up in a mid-sized city in Texas. I'm visiting my family this week and today in the newspaper there was a huge glossy insert, "The Pigskin Preview," detailing how all the local high school teams are projected to do this fall. *rolls eyes*

Awww, icon!! Thank you. :)

I love FNL but I've read some decent critiques of it based on the fact that it's not an accurate portrayal of the culture. For me, it's such an alien culture anyway, I view it entirely as fiction. But the fact that it's close to home for many people (and was based on a non-fiction work) must complicate their viewing. For me, it's just really good television--the way they balance the ensemble cast, the natural performances, the well-rounded characters, etc. Plus it's pretty!

Funny how that is. I quite dread the end of August as it means that fall (and the rain it brings) is near.

What sort of vitamins are you taking? I've been taking a basic daily vitamin, but I feel that I should start being more specific with what I take.

I've been taking this thing called 'fabiron' which is iron + a bunch of B-vitamins. It's awesome! I'm also on vitamin D because my blood test results came back showing me severely low in it.

Yesterday's balmy 25 made me very happy. I was bouncing down Elizabeth St in the city in the sun. It was SO LOVELY and it made me SO HAPPY. I have no summer clothes with me (except some every-season dresses that I can make warmer or cooler, and some t-shrits) so I'm raiding my extra stash of summer clothes that I've left at Dad's to get a summer dress and some skirts! You know, just in case we get another 25 soon :D

August hasn't been a particularly kind month for me either. Whilst I started a new job right at the beginning (possibly end of July) it has been a month of money-stress and with no relief in site, it's making me depressed at the moment (it's a combination of things as well). Bad August!

Bring on Spring!!

It was a glorious day, wasn't it?! :D Melbourne does those spring days so very well. If only they occurred more consistently...!

We were just saying how the Melbourne weather idea of warm and sunny one day, freezing the next, hasn't really happened that much since we got here, but fark - on the way home from the markets, we were FREEZING!! The wind was a wee bit chilly!

I loved the day yesterday :)

*giggles* Yeah... melb's weather's been strangely consistent recently--I blame global warming. ;) But it can change fast.

I am afraid that I have caught yet another virus...woe is me...my work environment is fraught with risk I am afraid. Nevertheless, I am still feeling happy. I have my little Wilson curled up on my knee, a free weekend ahead of me, and by the end of the year my internship will be over and I will be hopefully stress free. yay!!

So glad to hear that your little guy is feeling better

What color was your sundress?

Date: 2007-08-31 08:17 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com
Ohh, I'm sorry to hear you're sick again. :( But Wilson on your knee is a very good thing.

My sundress was cream with green, orange and blue spots (sounds dreadful!). I realised only belatedly that the green spots matched the round bruise on my forehead. *blush* (I walked into a cupboard earlier this week)

"bruise on my forehead."

Oh poor you, ouch.

I actually love the sound of your dress. I wear an awful lot of black (out of practicality 'cos it goes with everything and I get lazy) but I am drawn to color.

Thank you! I wear a lot of colour--it cheers me up. It does mean sometimes I'm terribly uncoordinated but overall it's fun.
