OK, radioreverie wheedled effectively... and clearly I don't have enough to do (*hysterical laughter*), so I'm doing that meme that's going around.

Name a character (from a show I'm familiar with) and I'll give you three (or more) facts about them from my personal canon/fanon. (Personal amendment: with characters you think I know well, you may also choose an aspect of their lives so I have a focus.)

ETA: You can ask for a character that's already been asked for--I don't mind. It might take me a while to get to them, but I promise I will do so.

I've often thought she's a closet romantic, but I can't explain why.
I confess I drew on supacat's words, from back when she watched the show. We had a huge argument discussion about this one day (in RL not online). It started because she couldn't understand why Lee would be nervous sexually with Kara and I said one of the reasons was because she seems like she'd be so damn demanding in bed, and he assumed she had some really complex sex life/kinks etc. I was startled that Cat seemed so determined and sure that Kara was actually pretty straightforward and liked love and affection in her sex, but it's stayed with me, and I guess we saw that on New Caprica. :-)

I sometimes think it's why she can love Sam so easily: he's not as deeply under her skin, and she knows that if he left, it'd hurt, but it wouldn't destroy her the way Lee can with one glance.

Now that I think of it, I *can* see some canon support for that.

Both Kara-POV sex flashbacks have featured "slow, tender love-making". We saw it with Zak in AoC, and Lee in KLG1. Granted, the Leoben scene in Maelstrom was quite different, but that whole thing involved a ton of other issues. And we saw her being very tender with Lee in the UB flashback.

*nods* I saw it after Cat pointed it out (and I took off my Lee-goggles!). I think it's particularly telling that in her own POV flashbacks it's slow and tender.

With UB, I suspect it was a great relief to Lee to find her so comfortable with his own inclination towards tenderness--because they clearly did really connect--I suspect that's partly why he felt so confident and optimistic post-coitus. ;-)

The Leoben sex definitely was different--but I think it was clear that Kara was uncomfortable with it. Sure, she still felt aroused by it--but she's unsettled by that. It feels sexy but it doesn't feel like home like the others do. And because it was a vision it felt far more like it was about Kara wrestling with her issues than about Kara's 'regular' sexual choices.

Excellent! And I heartily agree with wisteria_'s comments as well, esp. re: Sam being less deeply under Kara's skin than Lee. I think Kara is secretly into slow-and-sweet partly because affectionate touch must still be something sort of alien yet still deeply yearned-for, given her childhood history -- abusive mother and a father who wasn't there. (I think she digs that kind of expression of love in a non-romantic relationships, too -- like when Adama brushes her cheek with his hand in the big Kobol reunion, she nearly breaks down. How many times was she ever treated like that by her real mom? Did she have memories of her father treating her that way before he left?)

But romantically speaking, I like how you have her crave exactly the kind of thing which Lee could provide (and wants to, in "Scar"). Intimacy with Lee is an alluring, yet terrifying prospect to her.

That would make sense. *nods* And she was so awkward with Kacey, but then seemed to get a lot out of showing her tenderness/hugging her.

Yes, well for three brief paras, she was MINE to do with as I wished. ;-) (Though I actually do think there's a strong reading for that on the show--at least as strong as other theories on Kara's romantic life. *g*)

Oh, yes -- I think the moment that is so key is when Kacey reaches out to grab Kara's hand as she rises to leave. THAT'S what truly gets to her, IMO. The child's gesture was just so open and artless, it just said "please love me."

Oh, yes, I agree that the show actually backs you up on that one! I just love how it fits in nicely with our own shippy desires. We might be mad for L/K, but that doesn't mean we're wrong. ;)

Good gracious, I keep reading all sorts of stimulating K/Lish things and I want to shove more things into my Essay of Dooooom and read everyone's old meta on almost every episode and I can't keep doing that. Heh. Silly me. Tomorrow I'll just crank out a version and send it to you, come hell or high water.

Sorry...it is a rather dark period. And difficult--such huge gaps left, there! I'm wrestling with it myself, which is why I asked. ;)

Ohh, that's a cool prompt too! Don't worry. I'm quite pleased to tackle the dark period because of the gaps--it's definitely somewhere I think fic writers could go to town. I'm coming down with a cold I think, so possible delay, but I will get on to them. *nods*
