*nods* Yeah, there was a Clark suckage period. Actually, on first watching I really disliked Clark for much of Season 3 and 4. But I was always here for the long haul, so I didn't give up. But at various times both Clark fans and Lex fans have had reason to despair. It's funny to think back on that 'Lex Luthor show' time, since I think that's really really changed. But it's true MR stole the show in the early seasons. However, FINALLY Clark is growing up--if only Clark fans had stuck it out!
