Top five meme

I have been greatly enjoying the 'Top Five' meme that has been doing the rounds for vidders and writers alike. It's fabulous to find out what the artists themselves like best, and it's also allowed me to discover some great older works of people on my friendslist, or works in their previous fandoms.

Initially I didn't think I'd be able to reciprocate. I haven't written five fics and I haven't made five vids, and most of my fannish output is meta... but then I thought that that really isn't in the spirit of the meme at all. So, here is my modified Top Five meme:

Post a list of your top five favorite fannish achievements, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've done, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

1. Picspam: Jamie Bamber
Why I love it: It's Jamie! *points* I frequently revisit this post myself to stare dreamily. I pimp it to people I think could possibly converted. *iz evol* Hey, at the end of the day, I'm as shallow as the next fan.

2. Meta: Lex's journey in Season 4 (Smallville)
Why I love it: It's controversial! ;-) This is my 'not a lightswitch' essay, which I think pretty much defined me when I entered SV fandom just before the start of Season 4. I love it too because there are dozens of people I have friended who do not agree with me, but we're friends anyway and so many of them have said they appreciate a different point of view. To which I say: me TOO! And thank you!

3. Vid: Don't U Eva (Battlestar Galactica, Kara/Leoben)
Why I love it: Sinful as it is that the only BSG vid I've made is not of my OTP and doesn't even contain my favourite character, I will always love this, my first full vid, because it taught me so much and it's where I found the joy in vidding for the first time. I can rewatch it (occasionally) without flinching and I'm proud of that.

4. Vid: Life for rent (Friday Night Lights, Tyra)
Why I love it: It's the vid that brought be back from the edge... Without it, Like a friend would never have been finished. And unlike Like a friend, I actually enjoy watching it! :-) I threw it together very very fast and without pausing to self-critique. I like it because I trusted myself so much, and because it allowed me to explore my early love for a character in a new fandom. This vid still gives me hope! (Now I just need to learn how to employ similar objectivity while vidding characters/fandoms/pairings that I'm way more invested in.)

5. Vid recs: Vid recs
Why I love them: Because of the joy in watching vids and in sharing that with others. I started out very casually with these, but increasingly I've been wanting to develop a more consistent reccing practice and so this list is also a promise of more to come. Think of it as a WIP. ;-)

Note: having personally modified the meme did not actually make it any easier to answer! Honourable mentions go to the essay on maternal forces in Lex Luthor's life (because it informs my view of Lex so heavily), my lust list (because radioreverie made it so pretty), and the BSG 'Maelstrom' meta that made at least three people cry (apparently).

I tag everyone whose diverse output means they don't fall into any clear category of 'fic-writer' or 'vidder'. Meta peeps! Reccers! Picspam-ers! I'm calling you!
