OH TYRA! I about started sobbing at "Why can't I want that?" I love her so much! There is not nothing about this show that isn't authentic this season and I just want to hug the whole show for being so awesome. I even love how they've showcased minor characters, like Buddy (a TRAINWRECK of a human being but so achingly TRUE) and Billy Riggins, and even those characters make me want to cry sometimes.
though I occasionally wonder about Carlotta
Shhhhhh.
The Eric/Matt vs. Tami/Julie sex talks didn't bother me, though I do agree with you about how it reinforced how differently girls and boys and treated with regards to sex. But, well, I don't expect FNL to break that mold, you know? That's not what it does. Also the Tami/Julie scene was so, so good. I loved her relieved face when Julie said she loved Matt and Matt loved her, she was so happy Julie could say that. So I do think it was bittersweet for Tami, because she knows Julie was ready and made a good choice, but it's always a little sad to have your kids grows up. Also I think I'm just coming at this show from a different place than you (and I'm SO glad you're posting about it!), because I basically grew up in Dillon-by-another-name, so I never can tell how much that is influencing what I love about the show.
I always liked Tim but he was never my favorite, but wow have I enjoyed seeing him be Lyla's rock. The pat-ness of his getting into college unsettled me a little--not as a problem with the show, but in contrast to how characters like Tyra slave away, but those who are good at football have a free ticket they really didn't even want. Oh show!
Although I ADORED Smash's ending and liked Jason's, I don't think I'd like it if everyone got their happy ending. In reality, some of them won't get what they want, at least not right away, and that's a part of small-town life that I think they've captured really well along the way. So while I wish happiness for all these people I ADORE, I know in reality that probably wouldn't happen so I do kind of hope the show adheres to its truth and doesn't tie everything up in a little bow.
