True his expression when he was about to make love to Lana, was pretty ambigous (The subtext was wayyyy strong as well, seeing how he had just finished with Lex) But there was desire. I honestly think he is realising just how much he likes her. That smile when he tells Oliver that he'd better watch out or Lois would pin an apron on him and name him after a fairy tale character? *loves*
I think by Tom it's being played as "God I used to think Lois was annoying, but actually she's kinda...nice, and a good friend, and, she's not after my secret, and she still likes me and...and " kinda thing. Which would explain the guarded-ness thing (Love your icon by the way)
