Loss, recovery and longing in vidding

I recently discovered that I'd lost my Kara/Leoben vid in the harddrive crash. I was surprised how bereft I felt to think it might be gone for good. I think because it's the first creative work I've ever been proud of. Anyway, I got it back from a friend today and feel much more complete now. *breathes contentedly* It's here if anyone wants it (warning: it's the large 37MB version).

Today I had that thing happen where a random song you've never paid that much attention to comes on the radio/your iPod and you suddenly start listening to it in a whole new way, because it connects instinctively with a show in your mind and this entire vid plays out in your mind and before you know it you are listening to the track over and over and dancing and singing along and visualising it all and generally going completely batshit.

And then you come to your senses and add it as no.50 on the list of 'vids I will probably never make'. *headdesk* Still, here's to bringing your internal visions come to life! Which actually is not at ALL what happened with my Kara/Leoben vid--I swear on my puppy's life that I never knew I had that in my head until it just came out, there in the vid.

Oh, I'm glad you got it back!

Yup! Me too! *G* It was good to revisit it and see how I'd improved since then. And I feel more complete with it.

lol, guilty of doing that!! I have been listening non stop to 2 songs I love for a new Kara/leoben vid, but I have not yet started, but in my head, it's awesome!

I downloaded your vid, neat editing and story telling!! saved it for the moments to come when I'll need a fix. Bound to happen over the next 8 months!

It's pretty amazing how that happens, isn't it?! It gives you such a high, at least until you get to the frustrated-vidder stage. *g*

I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. It was my very first, so I see the clunkiness now, but I'm still fond of it. And if it fills a little of the ENORMOUS VOID of the BSG hiatus, then that is very good.

YAY! I'm so glad you got it, Boppy. :D

Ok, downloading it AGAIN! I won't lose it this time, either. *crosses fingers*

I'm glad because it gave me a chance to rewatch it and it was really interesting to see how I could see how I'd improved since I made this. My cutting's better now, and I would have used fades in a few places. But that's ok! I still like it. :-)

You should like it. You should LOVE it. I know that you have improved, and that's a great thing, but your first vid was sooo good, it didn't seem like a first vid!

Thanks, hon!

Whew! Glad you got your vid back. The first vid always has a special place in one's heart, I think.

*nods* It really does. I revisited it and could see how I'd grown, but I still like it--and that's a miracle for self-critical me--and I still marvel at how I just started tinkering one day and it just came out and that it came together so well.

Wow! I'm new to watching videos but I can say that this one is so pretty! I had forgotten how unhinged Kara looked at the beginning of the season. You captured that well and her trapped feeling. I especially noticed a particular kind of 'look' Leoben always gives her. Like he's waiting for something, it's very curious. The season just ended but I can't wait to see them interact again. Or at least see some deleted scenes!

So glad you found it again.

Thank you so much! I'm glad the sense of being trapped, the claustrophobia came through--that was something I was really trying to convey. And you're right, Leoben has that quizzical, fascinated look that he gives her. So interesting!

, because it connects instinctively with a show in your mind and this entire vid plays out in your mind YES! I do that all the time. All my playlists on my ipod are based around television shows. Frakkin Toasters is my angry music mix and Dean's Bitch is my 80's mullet rock. My latest find is FOB's Thriller, cause I can not think of a better motto for Lee/Kara than 'long live the car crash hearts'.

:-) 'car crash hearts' sounds about right. I have a 50-song playlist entitled 'possible vids'. I be doomed! But yeah, I just adore the way music connects and resonates with our inner-movie-screen. *g*
