Basically, they made it so that the only reason Clark and Lana aren't together is because he'll die if they stay too close (Lana had to absorb Kryptonite). Which would make any other relationship moves Clark might make this season feel completely like a rebound and like he's only doing it because he can't have Lana. Especially since they have Lana the one walking away and Clark the one begging her not to.
I just... it seems to stupid and short-sighted for them to do that to Clark's character (who, of course, has regressed to a pre-S8 state in everything involving Lana).
I just... they destroyed 3 ships in one swoop for me.
Clana. Gone.
Clex. Gone. (the absurdity of Lex being killed by a monkey toy and Clark's ridiculous meaningful Lex!dust moment has forever scarred the Grand Destiny)
Do NOT get me started! The world's biggest, longest, unreadable rant is brewing in me, that's for sure.
would make any other relationship moves Clark might make this season feel completely like a rebound and like he's only doing it because he can't have Lana Because that's exactly what he WOULD be doing. In fact, I'd argue that given how huge the Clana relationship has been played in Smallville ANY relationship EVER from now on will be meaningless. Because let's face it, if Lana hadn't BECOME KRYPTONITE they'd still be together.
I can't believe I ever thought that Lana and Clark might actually either mutually or individually consider why they weren't suited as a couple.
Kate, it is SO MUCH WORSE when played out on your screen! Nothing could have prepared me. The show didn't even LOOK like the usual show. *cries*
I can't ever get over this. And me, completionist who I am, is SERIOUSLY considering bailing on the rest of the season. It's not my show any more and nothing will redeem this.
EPIC FAIL. EPIC. I just... the words are coming, they will come, but they are struggling to push their way past the bile.
Never in a million years did I think this is how it would play out. What was all that talk about there not being proper 'closure' for the Clana relationship?!!! There was more closure before this arc! Clark had been getting over it, moving on. Now? He'll never be over it because it will never be resolved, because it will be the eternal 'could have been'. ARRRRRGGGGHHHH.
Oh wait, you missed the destruction of the Justice League. It's now headed up by a murderer. I just don't get how the owners of DC are allowing the CW to completely destroy it's iconic characters. I just....*hands*
From all possible ways to get rid of the Clana, they picked the worst one. Again! *headdesk*
But, I have to give them credits for destroying all characters; from the show, and from the Superman universe. And amazingly, it's all because of Lana.
Oh, and Oliver and his "it's no murder but justice"-speech and emotionally abusing Chloe? HATE! Big time! Are TIIC still trying to sell him off as one of the good guys on this show?
I admire Michael Rosenbaum for leaving the show and refusing to come back, or give them a voice-over. He must have some pretty good working scrying glass at home.
I would love to read your rant! It might help with the serious amount of pissed off that I have.
Because that's exactly what he WOULD be doing. In fact, I'd argue that given how huge the Clana relationship has been played in Smallville ANY relationship EVER from now on will be meaningless. Because let's face it, if Lana hadn't BECOME KRYPTONITE they'd still be together.
Exactly. I mean, when they did this in Dark Angel, it was clear that Max and Logan were just fooling themselves when they tried to move on -- if Max could have fixed her blood so that it didn't kill him, they would have run back to each other.
Also, and to add a tiny, annoyed point -- for all their 'love for the age'ness, Lana sure gives up fast. Max and Logan were in agony over not being able to touch, but they also needed to be near each other. Whenever one of them tried to get a little space, they inevitably came back because, even with Max's skin being poison to Logan, they were still happier with each other. They would rather stand in a room together, unable to touch, than date someone that they could touch. Even with all their issues, their faces would just light up whenever the other person entered the room.
They did indeed destory ALL characters and all ships, just about.
Personally I found Chloe's completely inconsistent characterisation more annoying that Oliver's out-of-character plot (because I don't like them scripting him as Lex's killer either)--Chloe has advocated that Clark kill Lex!!! Do the writers even watch the show?!
Good on MR for turning this shit down. It was TOTALLY disrespectful to his character and I can't believe they wrote it. The Lex parts were almost the worst for me and that's saying something considering they killed Clana and Clois in the same episode....
Truly it reached some new kind of hideous low. I am actively ASHAMED to be a fan at a whole new level to the sheepish-love-for-adorable-but-batshit show kind of love I've had til now.
There will be a rant, oh yes, there will. *resolves* It might take some time... there are about 5 ships and 8 characters to cover! All destroyed in one ep.
Oh, yeah, I mean Clark and Lana didn't even stop to try and find another way around the problem--either when posed with the Kryptonite bomb or afterwards. But it was established last season that Kara could nuke kryptonite with her eyes... given that Lana is basically invincible now, could she not nuke the K out of Lana maybe? That sounds only about as far fetched as half the shit in this episode! I just find it RIDICULOUS that they just flailed and gave up. But neither of them are great lateral thinkers. SIGH.
I just find it RIDICULOUS that they just flailed and gave up.
It's what they always do when confronted by hardship in their relationship, though, when I think about it. They always give up and then mope about it, when it was their own choice to give up in the first place.
Yeah, I watched this and 15 minutes in I thought, Bop's going to reject this one. I almost did too, and damn if they didn't make me misty by the end. You know I can't take Clark crying even if the entire plot is ridiculous and I know the writers are manipulating me. He's gets this hurt look in his eyes and then . . . :-( Then Lana started crying too and I was surprised I still cared but I do still love her a lot despite her bad wig and bad storyline that revolves all around Clark. And his that now revolves around losing her. And the fact that they broke up again, when they broke up for good reasons last season so why, again?
I did consider snapping off the TV but I've learned from you and other SV people to handwave. It's Smallville and I'm supposed to be watching it for the pretty and not the cartoony villians with dolls. So I did that. But the last few weeks have been some odd retreads. Why kill Lex again? Why have Clana break up again? Do the writers think we weren't watching the first time? Or maybe as you say, they weren't watching last season. Very, very strange show.
Rant away, it's good for the soul. I think I have tiny ranty feelings brewing but mostly about my ship. I'm sure I can be stirred into further rantiness, though!
