Pushing Daisies 1.05, and some recs

This was probably my least favourite episode so far, but it was still fun. Just brief thoughts from me: Poor [livejournal.com profile] norwich36 though! Not only does the third-person narration that she hates continue full strength, but now it's RHYMING too? Eek!

Not being a big fan of Olive, the Olive-centric plot didn't do a lot for me. However I did find her teasing of Chuck rather amusing. I expected to be uncomfortable with them spending so much time together but since Olive seemed to play on Chuck's conscience about her aunts rather than make her jealousy about Chuck's relationship with Ned obvious, I was more comfortable with it. And once they were left alone together and confronted the 'ghost' I really enjoyed them. I especially loved their little 'you're alive: yay!!!' cheer on the rooftop.

And I found Olive smooshing Ned when he saved her surprisingly hot. I guess I'm now at the stage where ANYone smooshing Ned is hot, because I was also glad he reacted only with shock and returned to Chuck quick smart.

Ned's inner pain about Halloween was rather adorable. I'm not sure if it was intended but I liked that his hair was all mussed through much of it--as if it represented his inner turmoil. :) And they're retaining the eye-twitching when he lies--cuute! I really liked his visit to the aunts and especially his little exchange at the door where he asked 'why do I miss him?' Ah, absent fathers. They do suck.

I loved his 'your face went WHOOSH' line. I know that whoosh! I do that whoosh! Sometimes I wish I had a Ned who'd ask me why.

My favourite Emerson moments of this episode were 'don't try to act like that's a moment anybody knows' and his tease-y cheesy 'I missed you too' when Ned returned. Oh, and of course the moment with the shovel! Tee hee, I seem to be shipping everyone with shovels these days... Lana/shovel, Emerson/shovel. *amuses self*

ETA:Oh! Oh! and I must rec and squee. :D

[livejournal.com profile] talitha78's Cobrastyle is a great delight. It's Lex at his sexiest, funniest and most amoral. It's like a mash-up of all my favourite Lex moments ever and I play it every time I need to smile at the moment. Oh, Lex: unreliable minions notwithstanding, you really are my favourite villain ever.

Also I feel I need to add my squee formally to the Joss + Eliza = the greatest news EVA party. So glad someone took that man in line and marched him back to TV. Good work, Eliza!

I've seen a lot of people squeeing over this weeks Pushing Daisies, but, like you, it was my least favorite episode thus far. Not that I disliked it, but it just didn't wow me as the other episodes have. And I can't blame the focus on Olive since I do like her. Perhaps it's that I figured out the twist as soon as we met the mother?

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the twist was pretty obvious and the jockey plot was kind of blah. It just fell a little flat for me. But I still love the show and watched it twice. :D

Hee. Perfect description! Thanks for the wonderful rec. *squeezes you*

You are welcome--it fills me with glee! :D

Cobrastyle makes me ridiculously happy! It's a wonderful Lex vid, full of hot moments!

And thank you for liking Pushing Daisies--I feel like a club of one here. I'm embarrassed to admit how much I like the voice-over. *shamed*
I agree with you about Olive and I was happy that the ep wasn't one long catfight. Emerson also make me too happy. He saves the show from being too much whipped cream--he's a little lemon for their meringue. Ah? Pie reference?

*hangs head in more shame*

Cobrastyle is sooo happy making!

I'm glad someone else likes Pushing Daisies! \o/ I like the voiceover too. :)

Heee! That's the perfect description of Emerson. I wouldn't have the show without him--lemon is ESSENTIAL.

Clearly we are just liking different things about the show, because that was actually my favorite episode so far! Even the rhyming narration didn't bother me. I think I liked it more than normal because the case they were investigating related to Olive, and I was just so happy she got a plotline that was *not* related to her excessive infatuation with Ned that I could even overlook the narration.

And the total silliness of this show continues to amuse. Olive was a jockey? Really? And the death-via-horse somehow seemed funny rather than horrifying to me, especially that scene where Chuch had to translate for the guy with the broken jaw.

I also liked getting all of Ned's angst about his dad. Poor Ned! So completely abandoned, in his adorable ghost costume. Though I liked the parallelism, with Chuck trick-or-treating as a ghost to her aunts.

And I found Olive smooshing Ned when he saved her surprisingly hot. I guess I'm now at the stage where ANYone smooshing Ned is hot, because I was also glad he reacted only with shock and returned to Chuck quick smart. Not only that, but he actually DROPPED her, which I thought was a little cold. But I'm with you--Ned smooshing anyone is hot.

The other thing I really liked about this episode was the parallel between Chuck and the basement boy. Maybe she just needs to get some horse bone implants and she can resume her life? :D (Not that I would seriously contemplate such a thing, of course--it would prevent her from wearing those absolutely gorgeous dresses she is always wearing, which I swear is about 1/3 of my pleasure in this show).

She's definitely better when she's not all about Ned! I'm really glad you liked this one so much--clearly it really must be a case of different parts of the show clicking with us.

So completely abandoned, in his adorable ghost costume.
It WAS adorable, wasn't it?! Yeah, the cause of his emo was SO huge and his expression of it relatively restrained, so I didn't find him tooo woobie, if that makes sense.

he actually DROPPED her, which I thought was a little cold. But I'm with you--Ned smooshing anyone is hot
Haha, well I'm a diehard Ned/Chuck shipper already so I didn't mind him dropping Olive, but i do LIKE Olive more after this ep and felt sorry for her in that moment. Which is probably the first time I actually have felt sorry for her unrequited affection.

the parallel between Chuck and the basement boy
Mmm, interesting! Basement boy was quite amusing but I couldn't stop thinking about Byron from SV!

t would prevent her from wearing those absolutely gorgeous dresses she is always wearing, which I swear is about 1/3 of my pleasure in this show
RIGHT. I love her costuming SO much. It always makes me want to put on my swooshy polka-dot dress which is the closest thing I've got to her dresses.

I'm quite intrigued by the concept of Joss/Eliza's Dollhouse. I can't wait to see what they come up with.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
The concept sounds like it's got a lot of potential AND i trust them to make it interesting. *bounces*

I loved the episode! I found myself giggling the whole time but then I'm an Olive fan. I actually really like her character. There isn't one character I don't like on the show which is rare. Emerson is so awesome! I literally have nothing coherent to say that's how much I like it. LOL.

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's great! I'm glad you loved it so much. Seems to have been one for the Olive fans. ;) That's cool. I still liked it enough to watch it twice.
