Uh yes, work is all-consuming at this time of year--trying to get books off to press in time for them to be booklisted by schools. I like your attempt to rally me into motivation! It's true. I do many things that are good in the long-term. I'm also editing the newsletter of my state's Society of Editors, so lots of investment in my career there too. My ability to do a whole lot of boring and thankless tasks for abstract future payoffs amazes me sometimes...

Do people come from all over the world to attend it?
Yes and no. We get a lot of directors who fly in to introduce their films. And people come from all over Australasia, definitely. It's the biggest film fest down here in the southern hemisphere, but I'm not sure it registers as more than a blip on the event schedule of the film world anywhere else... But yes, here it is very intense. There's lots of jostling to see films that may not get a general release in Australia, or just to see the 'big name' films before they get formally released here (since we're often three or four months behind the US--for example, An Inconvenient Truth is debuting on Sunday, but won't be released here for several more months).
