I was thinking about your comments regarding the leaning into the kiss .... and I think that maybe it was deliberately played subtle by both of them, and maybe Clark more than Lois, for one reason, and one reason only. If they had made it so both of them were really leaning into that kiss, Lana would have seen the whole thing and that would have gone to a really bad place that Lana's return to the show doesn't need to go to. Her return is about closure on an amicable level, not about closure because Clark and Lois are now falling for each other and Lana's left out in the cold. I think Clark and Lois's romance is too special to be tainted with that.
