I certainly absorbed this entrenched fear of being 'literal' (not subtle, too obvious, etc.), without fully understanding what people meant when they said that. No one wants to be the object of ridicule.
And I totally understand why. You thought See, that's exactly why I think it's a really bad idea for vidders (especially those who have influence within the community) to go around pontificating about "rules" -- because most of the "rules" I've seen over the years are flat-out nonsense. I saw another one this week that made me roll my eyes -- episodic vids are boring -- which thankfully mranderson71 cruised by and debunked. But still! There just seem to be a lot of "rules" floating around that new vidders are taking seriously and treating like gospel, and I wish I could tell them the vidding the code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. *g*

Oh, same here -- like choosing a song with fantastic rhythms and nice variations, and then ignoring them. But that's another discussion for another day. Heh.
