I know vid watchers who find some vids I love 'too literal' and other vid watchers who find (other) vids I love too obtuse and obscure.
I have a sense that comes down to who is watching the vids. I mean, there are fans of the source. (Though some fans don't even watch music vids at all because they don't "get" them, we won't talk about those people). These fans only watch vids for that particular source, or even vids for a particular ship/character.
Then there are people who are fans of vids in general who may or may not watch vids for fandoms they're not in.
I think the people who are fans of vids/vidding in general are more likely to enjoy vids that are a little bit more obscure a little bit more thinky. Whereas "source fans" who happen to be watching a vid, but aren't necessarily "serious" vid fans, are less likely to see all those different nuances.
Does that make sense? I feel like I'm not explaining this well, haha.
